lyrics of the day

I rock a lawsuit when I’m going to court
A white suit when I’m gettin’ divorced
A black suit at the funeral home
And my birthday suit when I’m home alone

how i'm livin' this week

* in my ears * (aka what i'm listening to):

maroon 5, friday the 13th live (have i mentioned how much i love adam levine? sigh, . . . no disrepect to my fh (future husband) jesse l. martin but adam is just plain yummy. secret/ain't no sunshine is great. and finally a decent copy of wasted years - yea! also dig the cover of oasis' hello. can't wait for a new album!)

my chemical romance, three cheers for sweet revenge (gothic, thrashy, headbanging fun. "i'm not o-fuckin'-kay"! other faves: the ghost of you; i never told you what i do for a living; the jetset life is gonna kill you)

selected songs from hustle & flow ("whoop that trick! get her! whoop that trick!" - poetry, man. pure poetry)

songs from instant star, alexz johnson (sigh, . . . okay, here it goes: i love the n aka noggin during the day. i watched the entire season of this show and could not wait to get the soundtrack and it rocks! alexz has a great voice. songs i love: your eyes, skin, that girl and her cover of garbage's stupid girl)

* before my eyes* (aka what i'm watching):

lost (i've got nuthin' but questions - more questions, actually - but am enjoying the ride. still the best show on tv)

america's next top model (love this show. it is such nonsense but soooooo entertaining. i'm rooting for kayla, nik and bre for the final three)

degrassi: the next generation (i grew up on degrassi junior high and degrassi high. it was real and did not insult kids' intelligence. this spinoff is as real and topical as its predecessors. the new season of tng staredt last week - poor manny. why can't she keep her clothes on?? - and promises to be just as entertaining as the others. "degrassi. it goes there")

general hospital (i used to watch it religiously in high school and eventually gave up soaps altogether several years ago. but one day i was home during the day and watched it just to see what folks were up to and now i'm hooked again - dammit! carly's gone crazy. jason has amnesia. liz was carrying jax and courtney's baby to pay off lucky's hospital bills. and robin scorpio is coming back! i can barely stand it)

* in my hands * (aka what i'm reading):

back issues of entertainment weekly (i love this mag. it makes me so happy every friday)

cinematography by kris malkiewicz (the book i need for film class isn't going to get here until next week so i gotta read something . . .)

pinkisthenewblog.com (unfortunately work blocks the perez hilton site, which is one of my favorites, but trent is awesome as well and has a line on all the sleeze, i mean entertainment news)

am new york (i prefer it over the metro any day of the week and twice on sundays. as free papers go, it gets me through my commute and is pretty decent. well, except for today when it said that the high temperature for today would be 663 degrees. right on the front page. somebody's getting fired . . .)

so what are you digging this week?

holla,

guess who's back in da m/fking house? . . .

hey hey hey. so after a promising start i fell right off the blog. i could make excuses but do you *really* want to hear it? i think not . . . but just for you hardasses out there, all i have to say is that WORK SUCKS!!! damn, where the beepity beep is my sugamama or daddy? ugh . . . and just when work finally calmed down, what happens? DRAMA! at work. someone tell me why? i mean, its fking work, folks. come in, do the work and then get the fk out. that's all that needs to happen. but ohhhhhhhhh no . . . people gotta act like its frickin' melrose place around here. like my friend fussi smurf likes to say, work ain't nothing but high school with a paycheck. snap snap.

so on monday, the boss of my department called a meeting during which she held a 30 minute monologue about the state of relations amongst all of us: so-and-so doesn't like this one; this one won't work with that one; and that one feels like he gets "push back" whenever he asks so-and-so to do something. blah blah blah, whine, whine, whine . . . it makes her sad and she's tired of hearing about it so she brought it up and advised that we either work it out ourselves or she'll have HR work it out for us. egads! really??? so needless to say, things have been pretty tense around here. i wonder if she realizes that things aren't going to be made better by all that. people are more pissed off now. and if so-and-so didn't like that one before, then they REALLY don't like that one now. it will be very interesting to see how things play out moving forward. i'll let you know.

anyway, while i abandoned my blog in practice, i did not ignore it in my head. things would happen and i would think "i've got to put that in my blog!" (ex. an amusing story involving me, frenchie davis, and my friend young david - i'll tell y'all later). what can i say? the spirit was willing but the bod was weak. hee hee . . . here's hoping i will be better at this blogging thing. please stay tuned :)

all apologies,

Plug of the Week: T(h)rash

Hey there everyone. I was thinking about how I have so many talented and creative friends and decided that a feature of my blog will be dedicated to plugging their various endeavors. Hopefully, it will be a weekly thing but we'll see how it goes. And without further ado, here's the first edition of Plug of the Week.

T(h)rash
So my friend Sheryl is this amazing dancer and choreographer (check out her website at www.sherylmurakami.com). She teaches at Broadway Dance Center and at New York Sports Club. She performs in music videos and shows all over the country. She is also just one of the coolest people ever.

Sheryl has formed a dance troupe called T(h)rash which consists of Karen, Tia, Katie, Katya and Sheryl herself. Think Pussycat Dolls and you've got the idea. These girls are awesome. They are fun and sexy and it is always a great show. Speaking of which . . .

Come see T(h)rash this Thursday, August 4th at the Bitter End!

The show starts at 10 PM but come early 'cause it gets crowded. And word on the street is that they will be debuting some new pieces on Thursday - wheee!!! Also appearing, singer/guitarist Marcus Wolf! He will be performing between the sets. Overall, it is guranteed to be a kickass show.

So if anyone is around and looking for something fun to do, T(h)rash is definitely the way to go.

Peace,
Da Matic

Welcome to my blog.

Greetings friends, family and strangers.

I've thought about starting a blog for over a year now and never got around to it. Then my friend "Pablo Perez" started a blog this weekend (check him out at http://unwind718.blogspot.com) and I figured "why the hell not?" I've got some stuff to say and I'm sure my friends are bored with hearing me rant and rave about my pet peeves and the people at work and boys and why they're a pain in the ass and . . . well, the list goes on.

First things first, let's get some stuff out of the way:

Who am I?
Cute black girl living in NYC trying to make a dollar outta fifteen cents ;) Leo (my birthday's this weekend). Ivy educated (boola boola). Twisted sense of humor - for a long time my signature for my email account was "I'm the kind of [girl] who laughs at a funeral. Can't understand what I mean? You soon will" because I really identify with that line because that is some shite I would do.

What do I do?
I work for the man. Sigh . . . I work in the legal department of a pharmaceutical company. What can I say, it pays the bills. I go to film school at NYU and am studying cinematography. That's what I want to do when I grow up.

What do I like?
Films (duuuuh). TV - Cannot wait for the new seasons of Lost, Alias and Veronica Mars. Music - all kinds. I like to say that I'm a Rock 'n Roll girl with a Hip Hop sensibility. It makes for some very interesting (read eclectic) mix cds. I like to box and I like to dance. I do both at my gym (yay NYSC!). I like to read but don't get to do it often enough. Well, I mean, I made time to read the new Harry Potter but that's different :) (It was so good, by the way). Basically, I'm an entertainment junkie . . . and proud of it!

My blog mission statement
I don't really plan on doing this every day. I mean, that's a lot of work. I'm not much of a writer and work lately has been a giant thrombing pain in my . . . its been very busy. My goal is to try to post a little something every couple of days and to make it be more interesting than "Work sucks today" . . . though there may be some times when that will just need to be said.

That's all for now. I may rant and rave later. I may not. You'll just have to wait and see.

Come back soon.

Peace,
Da Matic
